For nearly thirty-eight years, Dr. George H. Moody served the citizens of Henrico County as a teacher, principal, and finally, as superintendent for over 13 years. In 1951 he became the first principal of a newly opened Hermitage High School, where he served until being promoted to superintendent in 1956. On August 31, 1978, George H. Moody was honored with a great educational accolade. Hermitage Middle School, previously Hermitage High School, changed its name to George H. Moody Middle School – a great hallmark in the life of a dedicated educator. Mr. Moody was a humble man, from humble beginnings, and is worthy of remembrance for leaving an indelible mark as an educator, a leader, and as a humanitarian in Henrico County.
The HCCPTA George H. Moody Scholarship is presented in honor of George H. Moody, former superintendent of Henrico County Public Schools. The scholarship is based on financial need, academic achievement, recommendations, and school/community activities. Scholarship applicants must be a member of their home school PTSA.
We are pleased to offer this scholarship to graduating seniors from Henrico County Public Schools with an active PTSA in good standing, who are planning to pursue further study or training beyond high school. Each year the number of scholarships and the amount of each scholarship is dependent on the donations made to the scholarship fund by our local PTA/PTSA units. One scholarship will be awarded per HCCPTA affiliated high school.
