Grounded in Gratitude
Our school communities are divided, both literally and figuratively. We have made sacrifices for the good of public health. We have sat with uncertainty. And now we are making new sacrifices and facing new uncertainty to return children to in-person learning. When dealing with uncertainty, it helps to be grounded in gratitude.
I am grateful that you are a helper in troubled times. Thank you for stepping up to lead despite everything on your plate. In 2020, fewer volunteers are being asked to do more than in a normal year. Take time to celebrate all you have accomplished in the first nine-weeks despite the obstacles. Local PTAs have lead school supply and food drives, organized drive-by events, distributed items to help with virtual learning, held Reflections programs, reinvented many fall traditions, and in some cases created new ones!
After celebrating, identify your needs, and get resourceful. Recognize that your PTA is not going through this alone. You have a team to support your school in HCC PTA, your PTA leader counterparts, and people within your school that will help as they can. We can and will unite our communities and improve our schools despite the current division.
