Advocacy

What is Advocacy?

PTA advocacy is supporting and speaking up for children—in schools, in communities, and before government bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children.

HCCPTA is committed to assisting in your advocacy efforts—there is power in united voices. Examples of advocacy:

  • Discuss a topic of importance to your school with leaders.

  • Host an educational event at your school on an issue.

  • Attend a school board meeting.

  • Work to implement strong family engagement policies.

  • Write a commentary piece for a news outlet.

HCC PTA Positions

HCC PTA position statements are official documents adopted by the HCC PTA Board of Directors in line with our mission and research or in response to the positions of either the Virginia PTA or National PTA. Position statements describe the Council's stance on a current situation or concern that affects children and youth in Henrico County and requires local, state, or national action to address.

Resources for Families in Need

In conjunction with HCPS Family and Community Engagement, HCCPTA has been building a list of various Henrico-based resources for families in need. These nonprofit organizations and government agencies serve specific needs in the Henrico community and are not affiliated with HCCPTA.

You can help us build an online resource for people needing to locate local services. Please view our current list and then add to it.
