Advocacy
What is Advocacy?
PTA advocacy is supporting and speaking up for children—in schools, in communities, and before government bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children.
HCCPTA is committed to assisting in your advocacy efforts—there is power in united voices. Examples of advocacy:
Discuss a topic of importance to your school with leaders.
Host an educational event at your school on an issue.
Attend a school board meeting.
Work to implement strong family engagement policies.
Write a commentary piece for a news outlet.

HCC PTA Advocacy
PTA Advocacy happens year-round as our local PTAs and Councils follow School Board meetings and take action locally to increase funding and resources for students. Click here to find the Henrico School Board calendar for work sessions and monthly meetings.
Annually, PTAs across the Commonwealth meet-up in Richmond to talk to their state delegates and senators as part of Virginia PTA's Capital Day at the General Assembly. Here are a few notable dates HCC PTA will join efforts with VA PTA this year.
January 7, 2025: Virgina PTA Take Action 2025 Webinar
January 8, 2025: HCC PTA Advocacy Prep Meeting (virtual, 7-8pm)
January 22, 2025: Capital Day (8am - 2pm)
Policy Positions
HCC PTA Positions
HCC PTA position statements are official documents adopted by the HCC PTA Board of Directors in line with our mission and research or in response to the positions of either the Virginia PTA or National PTA. Position statements describe the Council's stance on a current situation or concern that affects children and youth in Henrico County and requires local, state, or national action to address.
